Preparation coatings
Importantly, assess the condition of your terracotta tiled roof prior to buying your preparation and finish coatings to ensure a long lasting durable result and not having to double up on delivery charges because you realise that you need additional materials after you have already started the job. Check that the ridge capping is in good condition, it most likely will need to be re bed the ridge capping with a mix of Shieldcoat's CONCREBOND with sand and cement or use Shieldcoat's pre-mixed RIDGERITE bedding compound. Once the ridge capping is re bed then re point ridge capping with ROOFBOND Flexible Pointing. While you are up on the roof you need to check that there are any broken ridge caps or tiles, and replace them with new or second hand ones. Also check your valleys to see if they are rusty, if rusty you will need to wire brush the rusted area down and apply a coat of RUSTSEAL or RUSTSHIELD W and allow a day or at least 24 hours to dry before applying your sealer coat. When all repairs are done apply a sealer coat of SHIELDSEAL W to the whole terracotta roof.
Finish coatings
Once you have applied the sealer (SHIELDSEAL W) to your terracotta roof, then you are ready to apply your two coats of TERRABOND. Note that the first coat of TERRABOND should be applied finely as a tack coat. Now you can apply the final coat to achieve a nice even coat. Make sure that it is not applied too thick to avoid runs.
Important Information
Roof safety is extremely important and is often overlooked by DIY and inexperience tradesmen. Always wear fall arrest equipment (safety harness or scaffolding) and protective equipment when carrying out roof restoration work.
Final word
After 7 days you can re install the down pipes and it is now safe to collect drinking water.

Q: What kind of coverage will I get out of 15lts of Mouldshield C on a my roof?
A: It is difficult to give a coverage rate on 15lt of Moulshield c because it can be diluted between 5:1 up to 20:1 depending on strength needed and again how its applied; sprayed, watering can or broom. Generally one 15lt is enough for a 3 bedroom house roof, leaving you with enough left over to do your bit of cleaning around the home.
